Aboitiz Construction Expands Operations Through ‘Big Shift’ Strategy In First Half

Continued momentum expected for the rest of 2021

Forward-looking leadership. Aboitiz Construction achieved milestones during the first half of the year and it remains hopeful to grow the business in the coming years by securing more projects and improving processes and systems.

Aboitiz Construction is implementing its ‘Big Shift Strategy’ this 2021, which targets the improvement of financial performance, processes enhancement, and people development.

The construction firm, which started operations in Cebu 45 years ago, is optimistic that its upward momentum will continue for the rest of the year.

Amid the challenges posed by the pandemic, Aboitiz Construction managed to pivot towards business recovery while generating thousands of jobs in its various project sites, bringing social and economic value to the communities where it operates. The implemented strategy also involved upskilling its team members to take on bigger roles to sustain business growth.

“Despite the challenges, we remain steadfast in our goal of building a better future and helping other businesses thrive. Our Big Shift strategy is absolutely materializing and we are energized to create long term value for all our stakeholders,”
Anton Mari G. Perdices. Aboitiz Construction Chairman and President

Recently Awarded Projects

Aboitiz Construction announced that it bagged a deal with a logistics giant to build a warehouse and office buildings with a floor area of about 26,000 square meters in Parañaque City, by far the  largest warehouse facility of that logistics company. Another commercial building recently awarded is the design and construction of a 6,000 square-meter warehouse in Iloilo.

Within their infrastructure portfolio, Aboitiz Construction disclosed the award of the design and build of an additional overhead transmission line project, one Substation, and the construction of a water infrastructure project all inside the LIMA technology park in Batangas.

In their Industrial division, the firm was awarded another design and build project for the largest independent fuel storage facility in the Philippines. The project involves various structural and piping works for the corporation’s liquid fuel depot in Subic. Recently, Aboitiz Construction also  received the go signal to proceed with the shutdown works for a  coal power plant in Sarangani.

With quality and safety in mind, Aboitiz Construction is currently working to achieve re-certifications on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment from International Management Standards (IMS) certifying bodies in preparation for bigger projects ahead.

Completed Projects

Aboitiz Construction successfully completed construction works for a local market leader manufacturer and distributor of high-grade oleochemicals. The project is expected to contribute to a more efficient production of biodegradable chemicals from coconut oils. In May 2021, the company finished the civil works component of an expansion of a fuel storage facility in Subic, Zambales that added storage facilities for liquid fuels.

The company  completed during first quarter of 2021 more than 400 houses for the AMOA project in Cebu in partnership with  AboitizLand, Inc.

Last June, it completed the design and construction of Berth 4 for Davao International Container Terminal in Panabo City, Davao del Norte. This new facility will aid in the efficient movement of agricultural and commercial products in and out of the region, potentially creating demand.

Digitalization and people development

Part of its ‘Big Shift’ strategy is to streamline and digitize financial processes that will lead to cost efficiency and better resource management through elimination of redundancies in the system.

Recently, Aboitiz Construction launched the “Xcellerator” program in partnership with Union Bank of the Philippines. The people development program will upskill 1,000 team members on design thinking, project management, and storytelling.

The company also launched the “Get VACC to Normal Campaign” which is an information dissemination campaign about COVID-19 vaccination in line with the Aboitiz Group’s vaccination initiatives nationwide rollout.
